EJLPC Files Comments Urging New York to Compare Grid Alternatives

New York is preparing to spend billions of dollars on its electric grid. Those decisions will shape utility bills, reliability, clean energy access, and air quality for years. Before the state moves forward, it needs to answer a basic question: has it fairly compared the available options? By Raya Salter, Esq.

On September 10, 2026, he Energy Justice Law and Policy Center filed comments with the New York Public Service Commission urging the state to require a better and more just comparison of local transmission upgrades and larger bulk transmission projects before major grid investments are approved.

The comments focus on New York’s Coordinated Grid Planning Process. That process is meant to guide investments needed to meet rising electricity demand, maintain reliability, and connect more clean energy to the grid.
